The Master Key journey continues. This week we were introduced to eight ways of learning. Dr. Howard Gardner developed a theory where we have eight multiple intelligences. The theory of multiple intelligences differentiates human intelligence into specific ‘modalities’.
Eight ways of learning:
1) Verbal-linguistic intelligence(“word smart”)
People with high verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words along with dates.
2) Logical-mathematical intelligence (“number/reasoning/logic smart”)
This area has to do with logic, abstractions, reasoning, numbers and critical thinking. This also has to do with having the capacity to understand the underlying principles of some kind of causal system
3) Visual-spatial intelligence (“picture smart”)
This area deals with spatial judgment and the ability to visualize with the mind’s eye.
4) Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence (“body physical experience smart”)
The core elements of the bodily-kinesthetic intelligence are control of one’s bodily motions and the capacity to handle objects skillfully. Gardner elaborates to say that this also includes a sense of timing, a clear sense of the goal of a physical action, along with the ability to train responses.
5) Musical-rhythmic and harmonic intelligence (“music smart”)
This area has to do with sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music. People with a high musical intelligence normally have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch, and are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music. They have sensitivity to rhythm, pitch, meter, tone, melody or timbre.
6) Interpersonal intelligence (“people smart or a social experience”)
In theory, individuals who have high interpersonal intelligence are characterized by their sensitivity to others’ moods, feelings, temperaments, motivations, and their ability to cooperate in order to work as part of a group. Those with high interpersonal intelligence communicate effectively and empathize easily with others and may be either leaders or followers.
7) Intrapersonal intelligence (“self refection smart”)
This area has to do with introspective and self-reflective capacities. This refers to having a deep understanding of the self; what one’s strengths or weaknesses are, what makes one unique, being able to predict one’s own reactions or emotions.
8) Naturalist intelligence (“nature smart- an experience in the natural world”)
Not part of Gardner’s original seven, naturalistic intelligence was proposed by him in 1995. This area has to do with nurturing and relating information to one’s natural surroundings. This sort of ecological receptiveness is deeply rooted in a “sensitive, ethical, and holistic understanding” of the world and its complexities – including the role of humanity within the greater ecosphere.
We are all going to resonate with different ones of the eight ways of learning above but when we stimulate at least the original seven of these, then we experience faster learning and retention. That is what the Master Key Experience is encouraging us to do. This will also help in our communication with the subconscious. I think it is brilliant and is working very well with reprogramming my subconscious.
To your success.

For a free test click here and find out what your “smart modalities” are. My top one was interpersonal.
Thanks for a great post Charlene, and a great access to the learning style test. My results was Interpersonal, Logical and Intrapersonal. Which was surprising for me! Enjoy your learning.
That’s great that you did the test. I think it will be fun to find out what everyone’s modalities are.
Thank you for your great post . Very informative and insightful
Glad you enjoyed it.
Charlene, every time I read your blog, I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge and resources available at your finger tips, thank you for great share. I am looking forward to doing my test. Will let you know my result once I complete it.
Looking forward to it.
I have always been interested in Dr Gardner’s ideas – thank you for sharing the learning modalities quiz. I am a musical/linguistic learner. I love the integration and inclusion of all the styles within the Master Key Experience. I enjoy your blog each week 🙂
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed it.
Great breakdown of the 8 ways of learning. Most only are aware of only 2, so this is really useful information for everyone!
Glad you enjoyed it.
